MBB NABC Academic Excellence

Linfield men's hoops honored by NABC for academic excellence

Linfield men's basketball claimed its second straight share of the Northwest Conference regular season championship in 2021-22 with a 13-3 conference record (18-7 overall). The team found similar success in the classroom as the Wildcats were among a field of over 300 college programs to receive the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Team Academic Excellence Awards.

The NABC Team Academic Excellence Awards recognize men's college basketball programs that excelled in academics and maintained a team GPA of 3.0 or higher during the 2021-22 academic year. The awards include honorees from all levels of collegiate basketball. Linfield is one of three teams from the NWC to receive the awards, joining Pacific Lutheran and Whitworth, the two teams the Wildcats finish tied atop the regular season standings with.

The Wildcats also saw six players earn their way on to the NABC Honors Court, which recognizes juniors, seniors and graduate student varsity players from four-year institutions with cumulative GPAs of 3.2 or higher. Over 2,000 student-athletes earned spots on the Honors Court.

The six Linfield players selected to the NABC Honors Court were Aaron Baune (marketing), Alex Jaczko (history/secondary education), Carson Bonine (economics), Dempsey Roggenbuck (business), Jacob Hjort (finance) and Reece Gibb (marketing).

Linfield men's basketball opens its season at home, hosting Northwest (Wash.) and Eastern Oregon of the NAIA's Cascade Collegiate Conference on Nov. 12 and 15, respectively. Northwest Conference play tips off on Dec. 2 at Ted Wilson Gymnasium as the Wildcats welcome cross-county rival George Fox to McMinnville.
