Ninth-inning rally gives Linfield series win over Willamette

SALEM, Ore. – A three-run rally in the ninth inning gave Linfield baseball a 6-4 come-from-behind victory over Willamette Sunday afternoon at John Lewis Field.

Linfield was down 4-3 heading into the final frame. Tanner Jacques doubled down the left field line and advanced to third to score Cooper Browning and Garrett Moen. Jacques scored the third run of the inning when Branden Pasion reached on an infield error.

The Wildcats also put up three runs in the fourth inning. Jacob Campos notched a two-run single through the left side to drive in Daniel Kahn and Wyatt Smith. Campos scored on the next batter when Cage Hardy reached first on an error.

Jacques and Campos drove in two runs apiece for the Wildcats. Kahn and Smith each collected three hits and scored once in the ballgame. Smith went 3 for 4 in his final collegiate baseball game. The two-sport athlete and quarterback will join fellow McMinnville native and former Linfield cornerback Tyler Sitton on the Munich Cowboys of the German Football League with training camp set to start on April 7.

Jeff Hoffman went 1 for 3 for the Bearcats with a two-run home run in the fourth inning. Luke Werkmeister-Martin and Layton Wagner each drove in a run.

John Over allowed three earned runs on five hits in four innings of work before handing the ball to Skyler Manelski, who threw two innings and limited Willamette to one run. Colton Meyer threw the final three innings of the contest, holding the Bearcats scoreless while striking out three to improve to 4-0 on the season.
