Shade SAOTW

Shade named LAX Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week

HILLSBORO, Ore. – A lot of things have gone right for Linfield lacrosse as of late. One of those things is senior midfielder Bethany Shade, who was named the Northwest Conference Lacrosse Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week on Tuesday.

The Snohomish, Washington, native caused 10 turnovers and finished with totals of 11 ground balls and 21 draw controls in a 2-0 week for the Wildcats on their eastern Washington road trip. She was just as efficient on the other side of the field with a combined eight goals and five assists.

Shade scored five goals and had three assists against Whitman on Saturday before notching three more goals and dishing out two assists against Whitworth on Sunday. Most of her damage on the week was done to the Whitworth attack as she picked up seven ground balls and caused eight turnovers in a 20-9 romp of the Pirates. The 'Cats allowed just one goal in each of the second and third quarters en route to a season sweep of the Bucs.

This is the second Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week award for Shade this season. She also earned the honor on March 29.

Linfield caught fire in the home stretch of the season. The 'Cats (11-5, 7-4 NWC) are riding a four-match win streak and sit in third place in the NWC standings. They will look to make it five in a row when they close their 2022 campaign with a make-up match against Whitman at 5 p.m. on Thursday at the Linfield lacrosse and soccer complex.
