FOREST GROVE, ORE. – The Linfield men's tennis team could not find the mark on the road at Pacific on Saturday, falling to the Boxers 9-0.
The loss dropped the Wildcats to 2-5 on the year and 0-1 in conference play, as well as 0-5 on the road.
DOUBLES
In the opening double's flight of the day Linfield's No. 1 pairing of
Matous Young and
Rogue Stone fell 8-3 to Pacific's Reyn Miyagawa and Mason Tran. In the No. 2 flight,
Isaac Milner and
Nick Gabelman lost to the Boxers' Quentin Gonzalez and Aidan Rooney 8-2, and in the No. 3 flight the Wildcats'
Cody Pickar and
Abraham Solomon fell to Joey Hu and Koby Murata, making the score 3-0 at the end of doubles play.
"Pacific took it to us from the outset. They were more aggressive in doubles and never let us get a rhythm," said head coach
Ben Belletto.
SINGLES
Single's action fared just as poorly for the young Linfield squad, opening with Stone losing to Miyagawa in the No. 1 flight 6-3, 6-1.
In the No. 2 flight Gabelman fell 6-0, 6-0 to Tran, while Young mustered only one win in the No. 3 flight, losing to Gonzalez 6-0, 6-1.
Milner faced the same fate as Gabelman in the fourth singles contest of the day, losing 6-0, 6-0 to Pacific's Nicholas Koulisis.
In the No. 5 flight Solomon was able to take three games off Murata but would eventually lose 6-3, 6-1. The match wrapped up with
Seamus Miller dropping his contest to Garret Katayama 6-1, 6-1, setting the score for the match at Pacific 9, Linfield 0.
"We competed well in singles, but not well enough to show up on the scoreboard," said Belletto. "It will be a fun challenge to see how we respond this week in practice."
