Wildcats open NWC play at home against Loggers

THE RECORDS
Linfield enters Northwest Conference play with a 2-4 overall record after non-conference series against Eastern Oregon and Pomona-Pitzer. Puget Sound opened the season at 3-4.
 
LINFIELD AT A GLANCE
The Wildcats opened the season by taking two of three games against NAIA Eastern Oregon at Roy Helser Field. It marked the first series win for the program since the 2020 season. The 'Cats then dropped three games at Pomona-Pitzer the following weekend. Junior Cameron Skinner has established himself in the lineup as a solid designated hitter, starting the season batting .286 with four runs, two RBI and three doubles. Junior third baseman Jackson Horner has picked up seven RBI while sophomore second baseman Mike LaVigne has come around to score six times. Junior ace Andrew Del Biaggio has struck out eight batters while freshman lefty Jackson Koons hasn't allowed an earned run in 5.1 innings pitched.
 
PUGET SOUND AT A GLANCE
The Loggers are batting .272 and own a 5.88 team ERA. Senior Kyle Strash is batting .458 with 11 hits, nine runs and three doubles. Sophomore Cody Hirano is batting .368 while junior Dylan Joyce leads the team with 11 runs, nine RBI and four home runs. Joyce has also tossed four scoreless innings, allowing five hits. Senior Owen Shellhammer is 2-0 on the mound with 10 strikeouts and a 0.82 ERA.
 
THE SERIES
Linfield owns a 65-21 all-time record against Puget Sound, which includes a 33-8 record at home. The Wildcats are 53-20 against the Loggers in NWC play and have won eight of the last 13 meetings. The two teams split their doubleheader in Tacoma during the 2021 season with the Loggers winning 7-2 and the Wildcats winning 12-2.
