Swim Arpag SAOTW 2

Arpag’s record-setting performance earns NWC weekly honors

Sarah Arpag made a splash in Linfield's successful trip to Las Vegas for the UNLV Invitational, earning her selection as the Northwest Conference Women's Swimming Student-Athlete of the Week, announced Thursday.

The freshman reeled in Linfield swimming's second weekly honor of the season. Junior Whitney Averill also earned the first Student-Athlete of the Week award of her career on Oct. 31.

Racing against primarily Division I competitors, Arpag set a new school record in Monday's 200 butterfly finals, clocking 2:06.03 to place 12th. The time broke the record by one hundredth of a second, surpassing a mark set by teammate Kate Walkup at last year's NWC Championships.

In Sunday's finals of the 100 butterfly, Arpag swim a 57.19, placing 19th and ranking No. 3 on Linfield's all-time list. She turned in another third-ranked time in program history in the finals of the 100 freestyle, coming in at 53.18 seconds, just .14 short of tying the school record in the event.

Arpag was also a member of Linfield's 200 freestyle relay team, which finished in 13th place with a time of 1:39.05. The mark ranks fifth on the program's all-time list and bettered the squad's previous season best by more than three seconds.

The Wildcats will spend a week in Honolulu for their winter training before returning to NWC dual action at Puget Sound on Jan. 14.
