Linfield had bright spots on both sides of the pitch in 2022, earning three Wildcats spots on the All-Northwest Conference Women's Soccer Team, announced Wednesday.
Â
Senior Laney Green leads the Linfield trio with a Second Team All-NWC nod while freshmen Janae Lewis and Bella Hanna were named honorable mentions. Green was selected as an honorable mention as a junior in 2021.
Â
Green appeared in all 20 matches, starting in 18 in her final season in a Linfield uniform. The forward from Redding, California, netted seven goals, ranking tied for sixth in the NWC. She also contributed an assist to lead the Wildcats with 15 points. Three of her goals were game-winners. Green picked up two multi-goal performances on her way to earning a second straight selection to the all-conference team. She notched two goals against Lewis & Clark on Sept. 25 and Whitman on Oct. 9, both contests taking place in McMinnville.
Â
Lewis was second on the team to Green with 13 points in her debut season, scoring five goals while dishing out three assists. A Gig Harbor, Washington, native, the rookie forward finished the season ranked No. 7 in the NWC with 37 shots, averaging 1.85 per match. She put 19 of those shots on goal, also landing her in the conference's top 10. Lewis made an early statement in 2022, scoring a pair of goals in the Wildcats' 11-1 season-opening win over Multnomah on Sept. 1.
Â
Hanna was one of the best athletes on the pitch any time she entered a match. The defender from Lakewood, Washington, started in 18 matches, leading the 'Cats with 1,572 minutes played on the backline. She also took six shots on the season, scoring two goals while adding an assist.
Puget Sound's Ava Cholakian was named the NWC Offensive Player of the Year while the Loggers' Stephanie Cox was tabbed as the Coach of the Year. Elle Merte of Pacific Lutheran keeps her title as the NWC Defensive Player of the Year. Megan Yanagi of Lewis & Clark introduced herself to the conference in 2022, earning her way to Rookie of the Year honors.
Linfield went 5-8-7 overall with a 3-7-6 mark in NWC play. The 'Cats finished in sixth place with 15 points, four points back of the No. 5 spot in the NWC standings.
