Wildcats take on Bruins, Boxers to open NWC play

CATZONE CREW T-SHIRT GIVEAWAY
Linfield athletics will be giving away Dutch Bros Catzone Crew T-shirts to the first 100 Linfield students at Friday's basketball doubleheader against George Fox. Students are encouraged to wear the shirts during the game and cheer on the Wildcats as they take on their rivals from Newberg. The women's game will tip off at 6 p.m. (PST) while the men play at 8 p.m.

THE RECORDS
Linfield is gearing up for Northwest Conference play after going 2-2 to start the season. George Fox enters the week with a 1-5 overall record while Pacific is an even 3-3.
 
LINFIELD AT A GLANCE
The Wildcats shook off back-to-back losses to open the season by winning two straight over Caltech and Portland Bible. Sophomore Trey Bryant has stepped up his game in the scoring department, leading the team with 16.8 points and seven rebounds per game. He's shooting 56.3 percent from the field and 42.1 percent from three-point range. Carson Bonine is scoring 10.8 points per game after dropping a season-high 17 against Portland Bible. Reece Gibb is third on the team with seven three-pointers, connecting on 41.2 percent from beyond the arc.
 
GEORGE FOX AT A GLANCE
The Bruins' lone win of the season came in a 104-73 rout of Northwest Indian College on Nov. 19. They are averaging 80.8 points per game on 43.9 percent shooting. Momo Stokes leads the team with 13.8 points per game. Davon Walker is second to Stokes with 12 points per game and leads the Bruins with 27 assists and 15 steals. Chris Nickelberry has a team-leading 4.3 rebounds per game and has matched Walker's 15 steals.
 
PACIFIC AT A GLANCE
The Boxers dropped two consecutive games, host recently losing 105-85 at Multnomah on Nov. 26. Truman Young is shooting 44.8 percent from the field to lead the team with 15 points per game. He has racked up 22 three-pointers in six games. Jared Cattell has tacked on 12 points per game for the Boxers while Jacob Bolger is just under double figures at 9.3 points per game. Lucas Winkler leads the team with 5.5 rebounds per game, 46 assists and 25 steals.
 
HISTORY
Linfield holds a 10-game lead over George Fox in the all-time series, posting a 59-49 record against the Bruins. The longest win streak for the 'Cats in the series was nine straight games between the 2001 and 2004 seasons. The 'Cats are 32-20 against the Bruins at home. Linfield has won five straight meetings. The 'Cats swept the season series in 2021-22, winning 76-71 in Newberg and 85-66 in McMinnville.
 
Linfield and Pacific have met 111 times. The 'Cats won 73 of those games. The Boxers have been a tough team to beat on their home court. The 'Cats are 29-25 in Forest Grove. Linfield has won nine of the last 11 matchups. The in-state foes split the season in 2021-22. The 'Cats claimed the first meeting, winning 95-87 at home in double overtime. The Boxers took the second game at their house by a score of 69-66.
