Lewis scores in opening minute in 1-1 tie with Loggers

McMINNVILLE, Ore. – The Linfield Wildcats held their own against the first-place Puget Sound Loggers, forcing a 1-1 tie under the lights on Friday at the Linfield Soccer and Lacrosse Complex.

Janae Lewis made an early impact, scoring just 49 seconds into the match. Kathryn Pearson started the play with a throw-in to Laney Green, who sent a cross for the freshman Lewis to put away. It was Lewis' four goal of the season and Green's first assist.

The Wildcat defense kept the Loggers off the scoreboard for the first two-thirds of the match until Ava Cholakian notched the equalizer in the 62nd minute off a free kick just outside the box. She ranks second in the Northwest Conference with 14 goals.

Puget Sound fired off 18 shots, nine on goal. Cholakian finished with a match-high nine shots and five shots on goal in 79 minutes played. Radhika Webster Schultz had three shots, two on goal. Six Loggers played the full 90 minutes.

Lewis, Kami Echiverri and Sidra Griffin all had two shots and one shot on goal in the match. Mia Curtaz had the other shot on goal for the 'Cats. Curtaz, Pearson and Bella Hanna played the entire match.

Alexa Fritz made eight saves in her second collegiate appearance to move to 1-0-1 on the season. Chaylea Tome made three saves in goal for the Loggers.

Among others receiving votes in the latest United Soccer Coaches poll, the Loggers now come into a tie for first place with defending champion Pacific Lutheran with a 7-1-1 NWC mark. The Wildcats (3-5-5, 1-4-4 NWC) sit in seventh place after the draw.
