'Cats have tough week ahead against Lutes, Loggers

THE RECORDS
Entering the week, Linfield is 1-7-0 overall with a 0-4-0 Northwest Conference mark. Pacific Lutheran is 7-2-0 overall and an undefeated 4-0-0 in NWC play while Puget Sound is 3-4-1 overall and 2-1-1 in conference play. The Lutes, the three-time defending conference champions, were picked to win it all again in the NWC Preseason Coaches Poll. The Loggers were picked just ahead of the Wildcats in the poll at No. 5.
 
LINFIELD AT A GLANCE
The Wildcats have scored seven goals in their eight matches and lead the Northwest Conference with 52 saves and 6.50 saves per game. Junior midfielder Romario Mendoza and junior forward Cesar Cruz-Espindola lead the 'Cats with two goals, one assist and five points apiece. Sophomore Peyton Frazier and junior Julian Inches have shared goalkeeping duties. Frazier ranks fourth in the NWC with 22 saves.
 
PACIFIC LUTHERAN AT A GLANCE
The Lutes lead the Northwest Conference with 3.63 goals, 2.38 assists and 9.63 points per game with six shutouts and a 0.56 goals against average. Sophomore Craig Johnson's six goals lead the team and rank second in the NWC. Senior Keeton Heggerness and sophomore Brandt Kelly each have four goals. Sophomore Nicholas Gaston is 6-2-0 in goal and leads the NWC with three shutouts and a 0.75 goals against average.

PUGET SOUND AT A GLANCE
The Loggers are second in the Northwest Conference with 1.14 goals allowed per game, three shutouts and a .733 save percentage while ranking third with 14 shots per game. Junior Marko Babiak leads the team with four goals while seniors Ryan Smith and Cale Spence have three goals each. Sophomore Andrew Matheny is 3-3-1 in goal with three shutouts and a 1.02 goals against average, which ranks second in the NWC.

HISTORY
Linfield and Pacific Lutheran have met 48 times with the Lutes leading the series with a 26-19-3 record. The 'Cats are 9-15-1 against the Lutes at home. The Lutes won both meetings in 2019, winning by scores of 4-0 and 2-1 in double overtime.

Linfield and Puget Sound have met 48 times with the Loggers leading the series with a 35-11-2 record. The 'Cats are 5-17-1 at home against the Loggers and have lost the last 18 matchups. The Loggers swept the season series in 2019, winning by scores of 2-1 and 4-1.

LINFIELD COVID-19 PROTOCOLS
All individuals (age 12 and over) entering any athletics venue must provide proof of vaccination along with photo identification. Since all Linfield faculty, staff and students have completed this task in order to be on campus this fall, the Linfield individual must simply show their current Linfield ID.
 
Masks must be worn by all spectators at all times. Participants, including players, coaches, support staff and media on the sidelines, must wear masks throughout the duration of all athletic events, both indoor and outdoor, and during pregame and postgame activities.
