Testa ties it, Bruins score golden goal in double overtime

McMINNVILLE, Ore. – A late goal by freshman midfielder Max Testa tied it for the Linfield men's soccer team, but George Fox scored the golden goal in double overtime to escape with the 2-1 victory on Saturday afternoon at Linfield University's Soccer and Lacrosse Complex.
 
Alan Rincon opened the scoring for the Bruins with his 37th-minute strike on a penalty kick for his second goal of the season. He finished with a match-high five shots with two shots on goal.
 
Testa sailed the equalizer for the Wildcats from 20 yards out in the 82nd minute. It was his first goal of the season. Testa played 45 minutes off the bench.
 
One overtime period wasn't enough for the 'Cats and Bruins. With just over three minutes left in the match, GFU's Connor Kong called game when he dribbled into the middle of the field and scored the game-winner in the 107th.
 
Both teams were aggressive on offense. The Bruins finished with 15 shots and seven shots on goal while the 'Cats had 10 shots and four shots on goal. The Bruins had six corner kicks to the 'Cats' three.
 
Sophomore midfielder Logan Clizer, freshman forward Cameron Gaines and junior midfielder Romario Mendoza all had a team-high two shots for the 'Cats. Junior goalkeeper Julian Inches took the loss after playing the entire match and coming up with five saves.
 
NEXT
The Bruins improved to 3-4-0 on the season and picked up their first win in Northwest Conference play to move to 1-2-0. The 'Cats fell to 1-6-0 overall and 0-3-0 in NWC play with the loss.
 
The 'Cats will hit the road to end the weekend, playing at Pacific at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday.
