Wildcats host Bearcats, Pioneers to open conference play

McMINNVILLE, Ore. – The Linfield women's soccer team looks to build on its success in the abbreviated spring 2021 season as the Wildcats open conference play at home, hosting Willamette at noon on Saturday and Lewis & Clark at noon on Sunday.
 
The Wildcats went 7-1-0 in the spring with all seven wins coming against conference opponents. All four non-conference matchups this fall were against strong teams from the NAIA's Cascade Collegiate Conference.
 
THE RECORDS
Entering the week, Linfield is 1-2-1 while Willamette is 1-3-0 and Lewis & Clark is 2-1-1. The Wildcats were picked third in the Northwest Conference Women's Soccer Preseason Coaches Poll with 51 points and four first-place votes. The Bearcats were picked fifth in the poll while the Pioneers were picked sixth.
 
LINFIELD AT A GLANCE
Linfield is averaging one goal and 12.5 shots per game. The Wildcats' one win was a 2-1 win over Warner Pacific on Sept. 10.
 
Junior forward Laney Green leads the team with two goals and four points while senior defender Ashley Guldager and junior midfielder Emma Sammartino are the other Wildcat goal scorers. Green leads the team with 13 shots and seven shots on goal.
 
Five Wildcats recorded assists during non-conference play, including Guldager, senior defender Maddie Serafini, junior midfielder Izzy Chauls, sophomore midfielder Riley Omonaka and freshman defender Kamahie Samudio.
 
Senior Alyssa Bakkensen is 1-2-1 in goal this season with 36 saves, a .837 save percentage and a 2.12 goals against average.
 
WILLAMETTE AT A GLANCE
Willamette is coming off a 4-0 victory over Bushnell on Sept. 10. The Bearcats are averaging 1.75 goals and 11.5 shots per game to go with a 2.00 goals against average.
 
Five Bearcats scored goals during their non-conference schedule. Senior forward Emma Blackburn is the Bearcats' leading scorer with three goals to go with nine shots, five on goal.
 
Fifth-year senior Sam Borngasser is 1-1-0 in goal with 18 saves, a .900 save percentage and a 0.91 goals against average in four appearances and one start. Senior Jordan Roue is 0-2-0 on the season with 10 saves and a 4.00 goals against average in three starts.

LEWIS & CLARK AT A GLANCE
Lewis & Clark is coming off back-to-back home wins over Bushnell and Oregon Tech to wrap up its non-conference schedule. The Pioneers are averaging two goals and 8.8 shots per game to go with a 0.95 goals against average.
 
Junior forward Chloe Helenihi is the Pios' leading scorer with three goals and six points in four matches and three starts. Junior midfielder Brecklyn Beighle and sophomore forward Celeste Schreifels each have two goals on the season. Schreifels also leads the team with two assists and is tied for the team lead with Helenihi with six points.
 
Senior Abby Prager and sophomore Sophia Young have shared goalkeeping duties. Prager owns a 1.37 goals against average while Young is 2-1-0 with eight saves, a .889 save percentage and a 0.49 goals against average.
 
HISTORY
Linfield and Willamette have met 53 times with the Bearcats leading the series 32-15-6. The Wildcats own a 10-15-1 home record against the Bearcats and have won the last three meetings. Most recently, the Wildcats shut out the Bearcats 4-0 on Mar. 21 in McMinnville.

Linfield and Lewis & Clark have met 35 times with the 'Cats leading the series with a 25-5-5 record. The Wildcats are 15-1-2 at home against the Pios. The 'Cats won two of the three meetings in shutout fashion in the shortened spring season, winning by scores of 1-0 and 4-0. 

COVID-19 PROTOCOLS
All individuals (age 12 and over) entering any athletics venue must provide proof of vaccination along with photo identification.

Since all Linfield faculty, staff, and students have completed this task in order to be on campus this fall, the Linfield individual must simply show their current Linfield ID.
 
Masks must be worn by all spectators at all times. Participants, including players, coaches, support staff and media on the sidelines, must wear masks throughout the duration of all athletic events, both indoor and outdoor, and during pregame and postgame activities.
