Comeback attempt falls short for the 'Cats

FOREST GROVE, Ore. – Mounting a serious comeback in the fourth quarter, the Linfield Wildcats fell just short of the Pacific Boxers, 72-68 at the Stoller Center on Saturday night.
 
The Wildcats were down by over 10 going into the fourth after the Boxers outscored them 25-15 in the third quarter. Linfield went on a 17-0 run in the fourth to take the lead, but a 3-pointer by Madison Cabardo with 35 seconds left gave Pacific a 70-68 lead, who hit two free-throws at the end.
 
Shasta Lofgren scored four straight points to give the Wildcats the lead in the waning moments of the fourth. Lofgren led Linfield with 22 points and nine rebounds on 9 for 17 shooting. She also had two assists. Paige Lafountain had 12 points for the Wildcats, she also had four rebounds and three assists.
 
Jordyn Feniauer and Delaney Ragan had nine points each. Feinauer had four rebounds. Wildcats shot 46 percent from the field in the game and 62.5 percent in the fourth quarter. Janessa Yniguez had career-high eight points.
 
The Boxers were led by Brillie Kovaloff, who had 22 points and four rebounds. Rilee Price had 14 points and five rebounds. Camy Aguinaldo nearly had a triple double with 12 points, eight rebounds and nine assists. Cabardo had eight points.
 
Pacific shot 46.6 percent from the field and had 16 turnovers. The Boxers made nine of the 18 3-point attempts. Wildcats made 18 of their 25 free-throw attempts.
 
Wildcats are now 1-5 overall and 1-3 in conference play, the Boxers are 2-2 in Northwest Conference play and overall. The two teams split the first of two back-to-back series this season, they meet again on April 23-24.

Linfield takes on George Fox in a home-and-home series next week. The Wildcats are at home on Friday at 6 p.m. and in Newberg on Saturday, April 10 at 4 p.m.
