Wildcats' strong offensive unit is at the Boxers

MATCH PREVIEW

Coming off two straight wins and sweeping the Northwest Conference Student-Athlete of the Week awards, the Linfield women's lacrosse team remains away from home. The 'Cats are set to square off against the Pacific Boxers Saturday and Sunday. First draw is scheduled for 1 p.m. both days.

THE WILDCATS
Linfield scored a combined 20.5 goals in the two wins at Whitworth while limiting the Pirates to five goals in each of the two matches. Following the weekend, Maia Rezoski was named NWC Offensive Student-Athlete of the Week and Bethany Shade was named Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week.
 
The Wildcats are 2-2 while playing a conference-only schedule and are shooting 54 percent this season. Goalkeepers Epi Roldan-Rayo and Lizzy Harms have combined to make 32 saves, which is tied for the conference lead. Linfield has caused 40 turnovers and picked up 82 ground balls.
 
Shade has been nearly automatic in recovering draw controls. She has won 50 draw controls and Linfield as a team has won 72, both tops in the NWC. Shade has tallied 11 goals, seven assists and leads the conference with 13 caused turnovers. Rezoski has piled up 13 goals and five assists. Jenna Hessel scored seven goals last Saturday and has 14 points this season. Josie Duey has 10 goals and four assists.
 
The defensive unit that held the Pirates to five goals each is comprised of Gemmajean Patterson, Maranda Tucker, Elena Kroll and Madison Hicks as well as Shade and Duey dropping back to play defense.
 
THE BOXERS
Pacific is 0-2 in conference and 0-4 overall. Last week, Pacific lost to Willamette by the scores of 15-11 and 14-9, respectively. The Boxers are averaging 21 shots per match.
 
Sydney Bierenkoven leads the team with 14 points (12 goals, two assists). Hyland Cullen-Musengo is second with seven goals and an assist. She is also the team's ground balls leader with 10 and caused turnovers with four. Katrina Boyd has five goals while Amber Lancia and Vivian Mai have four each.
 
In net, Amelia Haindl and Madyson Ivey have split time. Both have made 13 saves. Ivey has the slight edge in save percentage .289 to .277.
 
Pacific dominated the start of the all-time series, winning 19 of the first 24 matchups, but the Wildcats have won the last four meetings. In their most recent two meetings in 2019, Wildcats won by an average margin of 17 goals.
 
UP NEXT
The Wildcats return home for their final matches of the season at the Linfield Soccer and Lacrosse Complex against the Bearcats. The start time on Saturday, April 3, and Sunday, April 4, is 1 p.m.
