Bruins down the 'Cats, 1-0

NEWBERG, Ore. – In the second meeting of 2021, the George Fox Bruins scored in the 67th minute to defeat the Linfield Wildcats, 1-0 on Sunday afternoon at the Austin Sports Complex.
 
The Wildcats picked up their first loss of the season and are now 3-1. The Bruins are 2-2. Both teams are playing a Northwest Conference only schedule in 2021.
 
The teams had combined three shots in the first, none of them were in goal. George Fox's Madison Burch had the first shot of the match in the fourth minute, Kristen Burke shot a ball wide in the 27th minute and the Bruins' Megan Harrington had the final shot of the first half in the 40th minute.
 
Annalisa Klein started the match in goal for the Bruins, she did not face any shots on goal. Madi Reimer made two saves and allowed the only goal of the afternoon.
 
The Bruins' Claire Wright came into the match as a substitute and had two of three shots on goal in the match, including the match-winning goal in the 67th minute, it was unassisted. Maggie Choate had the other shot on goal for the Bruins.
 
Linfield had five shots in the match, Emma Sammartino had two. Burke, Michayla Sponsel and Jill Leroux had one each. Burch and Wright had two shots each for George Fox, who had seven as a team.
 
George Fox had the 4-2 edge in corner kicks and had nine fouls, compared to seven for Linfield.
 
The Wildcats' Jalissa Somers and the Bruins' Hannah Moya picked up a yellow card.
 
The all-time head to head between the two Yamhill County teams is tied at 23-23-7.

A home-and-home series against Willamette is next for Linfield. The Wildcats head to Salem on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. and host the Bearcats on Sunday, March 21 at 12 noon.
