'Cats fall to cross-county Bruins in four to end season

NEWBERG, Ore. – A season of rebuilding and learning for the Linfield volleyball team came to an end Saturday night as the Wildcats fell in four sets to George Fox at Miller Gymnasium.
 
The Bruins won by scores of 25-15, 16-25, 26-24 and 25-15. They totaled 48 kills, six aces, seven blocks, 47 assists and 96 digs. The Wildcats finished with 46 kills, three aces, five blocks, 45 assists and 83 digs.
 
Kassandra Staton led the Bruins with 13 kills to go with 18 digs. Bailey LeBreton just missed double digit kills with nine while Caitlin Nemecek and Olivia Jacobsen had eight kills apiece. Addison Hawes finished with a match-high 42 assists while Sophia Lawrence had a match-high 27 digs.
 
Linfield junior outside hitter Raelynn Hammock registered a match-high 18 kills on a .145 hitting percentage. She also had 18 digs. Hammock racked up double digit kills in 19 matches this fall, including 14 straight to end the season.
 
Senior outside hitter Regan Dean and junior right side hitter Kara Thomas also finished with double digit kills. Dean finished with 13 kills to go with eight digs and a .220 hitting percentage while Thomas had 11 kills with five digs and a .346 hitting percentage. Junior setter Aylea Dixon led the 'Cats with 40 assists while junior libero Maya Nakasone had 24 digs.
 
The Wildcats finished their 2021 campaign at 5-17 overall and 1-15 in Northwest Conference play in Haley Domeck's first full season as head coach. The countdown until 2022 begins now.
