NEWBERG, Ore. – In a matchup between county foes, the Linfield men's soccer team fell 2-1 at George Fox on Sunday afternoon at the Austin Sports Complex.
It wouldn't be a rivalry if both teams weren't aggressive on both sides of the field. The Wildcats (20) and Bruins (17) combined for 37 fouls. The Bruins put up 16 shots and seven shots on goal while the 'Cats had 14 shots, eight on goal.
George Fox's Jackson Keller scored his first goal of the season on a header to open the scoring in the 22
nd minute off a cross assist by Alan Rincon. Rincon then scored a goal of his own on a penalty kick just over two minutes later to give the Bruins an early two-goal lead.
Junior midfielder
Romario Mendoza put the 'Cats on the board in the 58
th, picking up his own rebound and firing the ball into the bottom right corner of the net.
Freshman midfielder
Seamus Miller had a match-high five shots and three shots on goal while freshman defender
Keegan Brooks had two shots, one on goal. Miller and Brooks were among seven 'Cats to play the full 90 minutes.
Sophomore
Peyton Frazier played the entire match in goal and made five saves. Frazier is 1-5-1 in goal on the season with 30 saves and a 2.73 goals against average.
NEXT
Linfield dropped to 1-12-2 overall with a 0-9-2 Northwest Conference mark. The 'Cats will return home to host Whitworth on Saturday and Whitman on Senior Day on Sunday. Both matches kick off at 2:30 p.m.
LINFIELD COVID-19 PROTOCOLS
All individuals (age 12 and over) entering any athletics venue must provide proof of vaccination along with photo identification. Since all Linfield faculty, staff and students have completed this task in order to be on campus this fall, the Linfield individual must simply show their current Linfield ID.
Masks must be worn by all spectators at all times. Participants, including players, coaches, support staff and media on the sidelines, must wear masks throughout the duration of all athletic events, both indoor and outdoor, and during pregame and postgame activities.
