'Cats get fresh start in second half of NWC play

THE RECORDS
Linfield is 2-8-2 on the season with a 1-6-1 Northwest Conference record. The Wildcats picked up their first NWC victory with a 2-1 win at Whitman on Oct. 9. Willamette enters the week at 3-9-0 overall and 2-6-0 in NWC play while Lewis & Clark is 7-4-1 with a 5-3-0 conference mark.
 
LINFIELD AT A GLANCE
The Wildcats are averaging 0.83 goals per game and are second in the Northwest Conference behind Willamette with 5.69 saves per game. Junior forward Laney Green is the team's leading scorer with four goals, which is tied for seventh in the NWC. Senior defender Ashley Guldager has two goals and an assist and has started in all 12 matches this fall. Senior goalkeeper Alyssa Bakkensen owns a 1.99 goals against average and leads the NWC with 5.82 saves per game. Sophomore Emma Mulligan is 1-1-0 in goal after a pair of starts last week. Mulligan helped the Wildcats pick up their first win in conference play at Whitman, making four saves.
 
WILLAMETTE AT A GLANCE
The Bearcats have dropped five straight matches but lead the Northwest Conference with 6.83 saves per game while also ranking sixth with 1.08 goals per game. Senior Emma Blackburn leads the team with three goals while juniors Aanya Friedeman and Clara Mattison and freshman Ella Abraham all have two goals. The Bearcats have rotated three goalkeepers in 2021. Freshman Sam Borngasser is 1-3-0 in goal with a .814 save percentage and a 1.54 goals against average.
 
LEWIS & CLARK AT A GLANCE
The Pioneers have won three of their last four matches. They rank third in the Northwest Conference with 0.92 assists and 5.17 saves per game and fourth with 1.58 goals and 4.08 points per game. Sophomore Celeste Schreifels leads the NWC with eight goals and 19 points. Four of her goals were game-winners. Junior Chloe Helenihi and graduate student Becca McCullough have four goals apiece. Sophomore Sophia Young is 6-3-0 in goal, ranking fourth with 3.50 saves per game and fifth with a 0.80 goals against average.
 
HISTORY
Willamette leads the 54-match series over Linfield with a 33-15-6 record. The Wildcats are 5-17-5 in Salem. The Bearcats won the first meeting of the season, 3-1, on Sept. 18 in McMinnville. Linfield and Lewis & Clark have met 36 times with the Wildcats leading the series with a 25-6-5 record. The Wildcats are 10-4-3 against the Pioneers in Portland. The Pioneers, however, won the first meeting of the season, 3-0, on Sept. 19, also in McMinnville.
