Andrew Duvall has been hired as men's soccer coach at Linfield College, director of athletics Garry Killgore announced on Friday, April 10.
"We are very excited about adding Coach Andrew Duvall to our Linfield team and family," said Killgore. "He is a very well-respected professional who has been mentored by an excellent coach while at Concordia (Dan Birkey). With his connections within the Northwest and his disciplined approach to team culture, he is a great fit for our men's soccer program and our athletics department overall."
Duvall replaces Adam Howard, who stepped down as head coach in February after four seasons in order to spend more time with his family.
"I couldn't be happier about accepting this new position at Linfield. I am honored and humbled to be chosen as the next leader of Linfield men's soccer," said Duvall. "Going through the application process, I was treated exceptionally well by Garry Killgore and every person I came in contact with at Linfield."
Duvall arrives at Linfield after spending the past eight years as assistant men's coach at Concordia University-Portland.
At Concordia, Duvall assisted with a multitude of responsibilities, including recruiting, team training, academic mentorship, team travel, program budgeting, camps, team equipment and team scheduling.
The CU men's program compiled a record of 90-60-14 during Duvall's tenure, all while transitioning from an NAIA institution to a full-fledged member of NCAA Division II.
As a player, Duvall lettered four seasons in soccer at Concordia from 1999 through 2002, playing in 73 career matches. He began as an assistant coach at Concordia in 2011.
Duvall inherits a Linfield program that expects to welcome back as many as eight seniors and 10 returning starters.
"I want to give a lot of credit to Adam Howard, who brought up this program to a more appropriate collegiate level. Adam did a great job of building solid foundational principles into the program," said Duvall. "I plan to continue to push the program to reach the point where we are competing again for conference championships. We all want very much to see Linfield get back in the championship conversation."
Duvall holds a United States Soccer Federation (USSF) National B License and a USSF National Youth License. He completed a bachelor's degree in psychology at Concordia in 2003 and went on to earn a master's degree in physical education with a concentration in sport administration and coaching from the University of New Mexico in 2011.
Duvall has been a head coach, age group coordinator, assistant director of coaching and director of coaching for various youth soccer organizations in Washington, New Mexico and Oregon.
At Concordia, Duvall served as the athletic department's director of internal operations, facilities coordinator, and taught courses as an adjunct professor within the School of Management and Department of Exercise and Sport Science.
"I'm very excited to get started," said Duvall. "I'm looking forward to steadily building the program and committing myself to these student-athletes."
Andrew and his wife Susanne have been married for 15 years and are raising three young sons.
