KIRKLAND, WASH. – With all three goalies listed on the roster currently injured, senior midfielder
Carole Thomas played the full game in goal and stopped the first eight shots. The Northwest Eagles eventually managed to get shots past Thomas and went on to win 3-0.
The Wildcats fall to 1-3 on the season and begin conference play this week with games against Pacific and Willamette.
Shots were at a premium for the Wildcats, who had just four in the game, a season low. The Wildcats averaged 20.3 shots per game coming into Saturday.
The lone shot on goal for Linfield came just four minutes into the match by
Laney Green that was saved by the Northwest goalie.
The Eagles put a ton of pressure on Thomas was 29 shots, the Wildcats defense were allowing just 12 shots per game coming into this one.
Getting in the way of every Eagles' shot, Thomas finally let one through on a free kick just outside the penalty box in the 68
th minute and that seemed to open the floodgates.
Northwest added another goal in the 77
th minute on a ball that took a weird hop before getting to Thomas and ended up in the back of the net.
Looking to burn out the clock, Northwest added the third goal with just 46 seconds remaining and moves to 4-2 on the season.
Thomas' 10 saves are a season high for the Wildcats, who have had three goalies play at least one full game through the first four.
The 10 saves were most by a Wildcat goalie since September 2010, when Kelsey Hasselblad stopped 12 shots against Southern Oregon.
The Eagles now lead the all-time series 2-0, with the other meeting coming in 2016.
