MCMINNVILLE, Ore. – Freshman
Laney Green scored in her first collegiate contest on Friday evening, but Chapman's early 2-0 lead was too much for Linfield in their season opener.
The Panthers converted on their first shot of the game as Anna Montemor sailed a shot past
Madi Reimer to grab the early lead.
Sydney Kuehn tried to get the Wildcats on the board early in the half, but her shot went just wide.
The Wildcats were able to get the ball with some space in the corners but the Panthers blocked the cross passes to keep the Wildcats off the board.
Just like the first half, Chapman converted on its first opportunity of the half to jump out to a 2-0 lead on a shot from just inside the box from Emmie Farber.
The Wildcats got on the board thanks to a great cross pass from Kuehn around 25 yards that was kicked in by Green on the far side post. It was the first career goal for the Redding, California native.
Things got chippy towards the end of the match as Panthers picked up a yellow card and a red card in the final 15 minutes.
Playing with the advantage, the Wildcats were not able to get the ball in the Panthers half and fell in their season opener.
The Panthers outshot the Wildcats 12-8 and that turned out to be the difference in the match.
Junior transfer
Madison Topaum making her Wildcat debut led the way for Linfield with three shots in the game.
Despite the two conceded goals,
Madi Reimer made four saves, which was one more than her counterpart from Chapman.
