'Cats drop series to Sagehens

McMINNVILLE, ORE. – Linfield struggled to hang with Pomona-Pitzer at Roy Helser Field on Saturday afternoon. The Sagehens won the series after downing the Wildcats 21-1 and 12-1. Linfield falls to 7-32 on the season while Pomona-Pitzer takes the series .
 
GAME 1 – Pomona-Pitzer 21, Linfield 1
  • Pitzer took the lead in the first in a big way. The Sagehens scored six runs on four hits including a three-run homer from Jack Hanley made it 6-0 in the opening frame.
  • Linfield got on the board in the second when Cameron Fox reached on a fielder's choice, Tanner Earhart scored from third.
  • Pomona-Pitzer went on to score 15 consecutive runs on 17 hits.
  • Linfield used Wilson Miles, Callan McRae, Brendan O'Brien, Brennan Meriwether and Elazar Konsker in the loss.
  • Zach Cokos recorded multiple hits for the 'Cats.
GAME 2 – Pomona-Pitzer 12, Linfield 3
  • Pomona-Pitzer was strong out of the gates with two runs in the first inning. In the fourth the Sagehens tagged the 'Cats for four runs including a three-run homer from Nolan McCafferty.
  • Linfield used Liam Herlihy, Austin Thomas and Sam Adams in the loss.
  • Jacob Campos hit his first career home run in the bottom of the ninth to get the 'Cats on the board.
  • Linfield went on to score two more in the ninth on a double to left center from Ben Ranieri. Ranieri later came around to score on an error. Linfield eventually fell 12-3.
  • Jared Stark recorded two hits in his collegiate debut.

The 'Cats and the Sagehens finish the four-game series tomorrow morning beginning at 11 a.m. from Roy Helser Field. Linifeld will honor its 10 seniors tomorrow before first pitch.
