'Cats drop non-conference game to Bruins

McMINNVILLE, ORE. – Pitching by committee, the Linfield Wildcats snapped dropped a non-conference game to the George Fox Bruins 5-3. Linfield used 10 pitchers in the narrow loss on a chilly night at Roy Helser Field. The defeat drops Linfield to 4-21 overall. George Fox improves to 18-10 on the season.
 
RECAP
  • Linfield took a 1-0 lead in the first on a Tanner Earhart single to left. Alec Cook scored after reaching on a George Fox error earlier in the inning.
  • Liam Herlihy, Wilson Miles and Colton Meyer threw the first three innings where they did not allow a run. Miles struck out the side in his one inning of work.
  • The Bruins got out of a jam in the third. Corey Caldwell struck out Zach Cokos with the bases loaded to keep the 'Cats from extending the lead.
  • George Fox took the lead in the fourth. Mark Audet hit a two-RBI triple off the wall in right center to give the Bruins a 2-1 lead. Audet would later score on ball that was lodged into Ayden Allen's equipment behind the plate to make it 3-1.
  • Linfield rallied with a run in the bottom of the fourth. Back-to-back doubles from Allen and Kurt Potter trimmed at the George Fox lead 3-2.
  • The Bruins would add another run in the seventh on an RBI double down the right field line by Kyler Brudwick.
  • Levi Horner-Villa cut the George Fox lead to one in the seventh. He hit an RBI single to left that brought in Ben Whitt from second.
  • George Fox would add an insurance run in the eighth on a single to right off the bat of Sam Swenson allowed CJ Ibara to score from second despite a close play at the plate.
  • Cason Cunningham was the 10th Linfield pitcher used in the game. He struck out the side in the ninth.
  • Linfield got the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the ninth but couldn't push a run across for a final score of 5-3. Matt Volezke earned the save for the Bruins.

Linfield takes on Lewis & Clark on Saturday at Roy Helser Field for a three-game series. First pitch is scheduled for noon on Saturday.
