TACOMA, WASH. – Rallying in the eighth inning with three runs to take a 5-4 lead, the Linfield Wildcats fell to the Puget Sound Loggers 6-5 in Tacoma. Mason Quinlan delivered for the Loggers with a two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth to push Puget Sound back in front late. Linfield drops to 4-20 overall and 2-16 in conference play. Puget Sound improves to 9-18 overall and 8-7 in the Northwest Conference after a three-game sweep of the Wildcats.
RECAP
- Scoreless after the first frame, Puget Sound took a 2-0 lead in the second inning. Riccardo Barraza hit an RBI double and scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Jack Greis.
- The 'Cats rallied in the next chance at the plate. Brian Cromwell singeld up the middle and scored Ayden Allen to make it 2-1.
- Puget Sound added to its lead on a two-RBI double from Hunter Riley in the bottom of the third to extend the Loggers lead to 4-1.
- A single from Kurt Potter in the fourth scored Levi Horner-Villa to cut the Logger lead in half, 4-2.
- Quality pitching over the next four frames kept the score 4-2 heading into the eighth inning. Relievers Matt McDonald and Austin Thomas were both productive out of the bull pen.
- Linfield took its first lead of the game in the eighth. A pair of errors at third by Tyler Brazelton with the bases loaded gave Linfield three runs in the inning including the 5-4 lead.
- With one out in the bottom of the eighth, Mason Quinlan hit a two-run homer to left center that eventually gave Puget Sound the 6-5 win over Linfield.
- Cromwell (2-5) and Tanner Earhart (3-4) both had multiple hits in the game.
