Nine runs not enough as 'Cats fall to Hardin-Simmons

GRAND PRAIRIE, TX. – Scoring five runs in the eighth inning, the Linfield Wildcats rallied late and nearly completed a comeback after trailing by as many as seven runs. Linfield eventually fell to the Hardin-Simmons Cowboys 12-9 at Quicktrip Park in Grand Prairie, Texas at the Rusty Greer Jackie Moore Classic. The Wildcats dropped to 0-2 overall on the season while HSU improved to 1-1.

Highlights
  • Linfield scored the first three runs of the game Kurt Potter reached on an error by Tyler Pippin at shortstop allowing Fox to score from second in the first.
  • Cameron Fox knocked Alec Cook in on a sacrifice fly to right. Later, Colton Robinson singled to right and advanced on a throwing error allowing Zach Cokos to score from third in the third inning.
  • Hardin-Simmons scored 10 unanswered runs and led 10-3 at the end of the seventh.
  • Linfield rallied with five runs in the eighth. Potter drove in Robinson on a sacrifice fly, Alec Cook walked with the bases loaded to bring home Jared Evans and Fox drove in two with a single to highlight the frame. Linfield trailed 10-8 heading into the bottom of the inning.
  • Fox (2-4, 3 RBI) Robinson (2-4) and Levi-Horner Villa (3-4, HR) had multiple hits.

  • Linfield pitched the game by committee. Brosius started the game and was followed by Mitch Grove who threw two innings and allowed four runs, Kameron Walker threw the next 1.2 innings and gave up four additional runs. Austin Thomas was next out of the 'Cats bullpen. He threw the final 3.1 innings and allowed four earned runs on four hits.
