Game Recap: Baseball |

Linfield falls to No. 3 TLU

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas – Despite out-hitting No.3 Texas Lutheran Bulldogs, the Linfield Wildcats dropped their third consecutive game falling 14-3 in a rain-shortened seven inning game. Struggling to find their stride early in the 2019 season, Linfield declines to 0-3 overall at the conclusion of the Rusty Greer Jackie Moore Colligate Classic at Quicktrip Park in Grand Prairie, Texas.

RECAP
  • Linfield fell behind early when Texas Lutheran scored four in the second inning. The Bulldogs totaled two hits in the inning but two walks, a hit batter and a throwing error led to the forgetful inning for the Wildcats.
  • The 'Cats would rally in the fourth inning after Wyatt Smith scored on a fielder's choice off the bat of Jacob Campos. Later, Brian Cromwell drove in Campos and Alec Cook on a two-out double down the third baseline that cut the TLU lead to 5-3.
  • TLU would add to its lead in the fifth and sixth inning largely in part to Linfield walks and at the end of the sixth the Bulldogs led 14-3 despite only accounting for three hits.
  • Seven different Wildcats recorded hits in the game. Tanner Earhart and Cameron Fox both went 2 for 4. Linfield had nine hits to Texas Lutheran's three.
  • Colton Meyer made his first career start on the mound for Linfield. He completed three innings where he allowed four earned runs, struck out four and walked two. Wilson Miles entered the fourth inning in relief. He threw 1.2 innings before Matt McDonald finished the fifth inning with two pitches. Brendan O'Brien and Dakota Carter pitched the sixth. Colton Robinson tossed a scoreless seventh inning.
  • Walks continue to plague the Wildcats early in 2019. Through three game Linfield pitchers have walked 28 batters (15 walks and four hit batters today).
