Linfield's steady rise expected to continue

2019 SEASON OUTLOOK

With a heavy veteran roster of seven juniors and seniors, the Linfield Wildcats are looking to build off their fall season and impressive end to the 2018 spring season.

"With five seniors and more than half of our roster upperclassmen, we have enough experience to compete at a new level this season, said Linfield fourth-year coach Ben Belletto. "The guys have put in a few weeks of extraordinary work in practice,"

Belletto welcomes back eight players from the 2018 team that showed tremendous promise. He has since added three freshmen to round out the squad.

"The difference between our first and second week of practice in terms of how sharp we've looked is striking, and not because we didn't look good right out of the gates. It's a long season that goes by quickly, and they are doing everything in their power to prepare for success this season," he said.

Linfield's top tandem of second team all-NWC recipients Nathan Saragoza '19 and Luis Rojas '20 return to the top of the lineup, joined by Trent Prussing '19, J.T. Barcellos '19 and Jacob Mangan '19. Senior Eric Rutherford, a staple in the doubles lineup, looks to contribute consistently in both singles and doubles this season.

"I want to do everything I can for this special class of seniors to make this season their best," said Belletto. "We have improved in all facets, but I also know that every other team is out there working hard to improve. We have to be prepared to compete at a high level for several months.

"It's going to be a fun journey, and the key will be keeping the process fun throughout the season. If we can do that, the results will follow."
