Linfield starts strong, downs Whitman 12-1

McMINNVILLE, ORE. – Dominant pitching and early runs pushed the Linfield Wildcats to a 12-1 win over the Whitman Blues. Starting pitcher Colton Meyer and center fielder Cameron Fox highlighted the afternoon for Linfield that gave the 'Cats their third win of the seaon. Linfield improved to 3-6 (1-2 NWC) while Whitman falls a game below .500 at 5-6 (2-1).
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • Linfield raced to a 2-0 lead in the first thanks to a pair of sacrifice flies from Brian Cromwell scoring Ben Whitt and later from Cameron Fox to score Alec Cook
  • Fox delivered again in the third when he blasted his first home run of the season to make it 4-0.
  • Linfield starting pitcher Colton Meyer had his strongest outing of his young career. The lefty had seven strikeouts over six-scoreless innings where he did not allow a run in his third career start.
  • The 'Cats lead grew in the fifth when Ben Wager hit a double with the bases loaded to bring in three making it 8-0, Linfield.
  • Linfield would post four more runs over the next two innings highlighted by a twp-RBI double from Cromwell in the sixth.
  • Kameron Walker, Brendan O'Brien and Brennan Meriwether finished the last three innings where they combined to allow just one run.

Linfield travels to Forest Grove next weekend to take on the Pacific Boxers in a three-game series. First pitch is scheduled for noon on Saturday.
