FOREST GROVE, Ore. – Being down 10 points going into the fourth quarter, the Linfield Wildcats tied the game in regulation and went into win 84-78 in overtime over the Warner Pacific Knights in the first game of the Ken Schumann Classic on Friday afternoon.
The Wildcats are now 3-1 on the season, winning their first game away from home this season.
Jordyn Feinauer caught fire in the first quarter hitting four shots from beyond the arc to help the Wildcats lead 24-13. Feinauer had 16 points, five rebounds and three steals. Her five rebounds are a career-high and she fell just one short of her career-high in points.
Linfield took a 30-21 lead in the second quarter with a jumper by
Cassidy Schutz, but Warner Pacific closed the second quarter on 19-6 run to take a three-point lead into the locker room at halftime.
The Knights extended their lead to 10 in the third quarter including a 10-2 run to close out the quarter. For the Knights, Samantha Morgan led the way with 21 points, nine rebounds and three steals.
Looking to rally back in the fourth quarter, a three-pointer by
Delaney Ragan started an 8-0 run for Linfield to trim the deficit to 61-58. Ragan had nine points and four rebounds in this one, she only played 25 minutes suffering an injury in the fourth quarter, but came back to close out the game in overtime.
Kory Oleson continued her strong showing the season with season-high 26 points, nine rebounds, four assists, three steals and a block. Through games played through Friday afternoon, Oleson is third in the Northwest conference with 19 points per game and fourth with two steals per game.
A layup by Oleson cut the Warner Pacific lead down to one and a layup by Schutz gave Linfield its first lead since the second quarter. Schutz had nine points, six assists, four rebounds and two blocks.
Linfield led 69-67 with six seconds left following Schutz going one for two at the free-throw line. Warner Pacific tied the game at the buzzer on a layup by Payton Whitmore.
This was the first overtime game of the season for the Wildcats, they went 1-0 in overtime games last season, winning 91-84 over Puget Sound in double overtime.
The Wildcats started the overtime period with a three from Oleson and closed it out with four-straight free throws from the West Linn, Oregon, native to complete the comeback over the Knights.
Molly Danielson had her third double-double of the season, grabbing career-high 16 rebounds and 14 points, she also added four assists. The Beaverton, Oregon, native is second in the NWC with 12.3 rebounds per game.
The Wildcats got 10 points off the bench, with eight from
Shasta Lofgren, including five in the second half and two from
Alexis Heald.
The 3-1 start for Linfield is its best start since starting the season 5-1 in 2015-16, the first season under coach
Casey Bunn-Wilson.
