WALLA WALLA, Wash. – Looking to snap a two-game losing skid, the Linfield Wildcats defeated the Whitman 1-0 on a game-winning goal by
Sydney Kuehn in the 80
th minute.
Missing the last game due to an injury,
Madi Reimer made the start in goal for the Wildcats and saved three shots, the Blues had just four shots and three on goal, all coming in the first half. The Sherwood, Ore. native secured her fifth shutout of the season, and 15
th of her career.
The Wildcats had two shots on goal in the first 12 minutes of the game, but both were stopped by the Blues.
Both defenses maintained a shutout for nearly 80 minutes, but the Wildcats finally got a ball in the back of the net by Kuehn on an assist by
Ashley Guldager.
It was the ninth goal of the season for Kuehn, which is tied for the lead in the Northwest Conference, while it was the first assist of the season for Guldager.
Kuehn's nine goals are a career-high for the senior from Duvall, Washington, and she is tied for seventh all-time with Lauren Millhollin in Linfield women's soccer history with 20 goals.
Linfield had just six shots in the game all on goal, while Whitman had four, three on goal. Linfield also had the advantage in corners, 6-3.
Carole Thomas had two shots on goal,
Anna Peckham and
Michayla Sponsel had one, while Kuehn had two to make up the six shots on goal for Linfield.
The Wildcats move to 7-5-1 in conference play which is fourth in the NWC, while the Blues fall to 3-10, which is seventh.
