MCMINNVILLE, ORE. – The Linfield Wildcats (5-7) looked to pick up their second NWC win at home against Puget Sound (9-2) in Ted Wilson Gymnasium on Saturday, January 5
th. After double overtime the Wildcats were able to take down the Loggers 91-84.
'Cat stats
All eight of the Wildcats were able to get on the scoreboard,
Kory Oleson lead the way with a game high of 25 points while counter-part
Molly Danielson contributed 18 and picked up her seventh double-double of the season.
Cassidy Schutz was able to knock down a couple of threes for the Wildcats adding 12 points and two assists. Off the bench
Hanna Bingham contributed 11 points and six rebounds.
Cameron Reuter and
Maggie Smith each added nine for the Wildcats in the win.
Loggers stats
Puget Sound was led by Jamie Lange who had 24 points and 16 rebounds. Two other Loggers were in the double digits, Elizabeth Prewitt with 22 points and RaeAnn Allen with 17 points. The Loggers shot 45.8% from the field and 63.6% from the free-throw line.
1st Half
The 'Cats won the opening tip and scored in their first possession as Reuter found Oleson under the basket for an easy lay-up. Linfield and Puget Sound went point for point in the first quarter of play. Heading into the second quarter the Loggers held the lead 16 -15. Puget Sound was able to keep their momentum as RaeAnn Allen drained a jumper to start the second quarter. Schutz was able to tie it up for the 'Cats as she picked up her second three of the night. Linfield went on an eight-point run to take the lead back from the Loggers with just five minutes left to play in the first half. The Wildcats were able to extend their lead to six points as
Maggie Smith knocked down a three pointer from the corner.
2nd Half
Puget Sound came out ready to play in the third quarter as they closed in on Linfield's lead by knocking down a couple of three throws and pushing the ball up the court for some quick lay-ups. The Wildcats went on a four-point run after Danielson knocked down a jumper from the elbow and then off of a steal
Hanna Bingham went the distance.
Morgan Croxford knocked down a pair of free throws to extend the 'Cats lead to four heading into the fourth quarter. Back-to-back jumpers by the Loggers resulted in a momentum and lead swing with just under five minutes of play left. The Wildcats and Loggers went basket for basket in the remaining three minutes of play. With 28 second left to play Danielson laid one in to go up by one, but a costly foul by Danielson sent the Loggers to the free-throw line and would tie the game up.
Overtime
Linfield won the jump and would score right off the get go as
Cameron Reuter made a lay-up off of a dribble drive to the left side of the basket. The 'Cats and Loggers continued to go basket for basket for the full five minutes of overtime. Puget Sound had a chance to take the game with 1 second left to play but missed both free-throws resulting in a second overtime.
Second Overtime
Kory Oleson drained a five-foot jumper off of a pass from Reuter to take the lead back for the 'Cats. Linfield and Puget Sound continued to go point for point until Schutz knocked down a jumper to give the Wildcats a four-point lead. With 30 seconds left to play Smith made one of two from the free-throw line and gave Linfield the lead 89-84. Bingham drained two free-throws to seal the deal for the Wildcats and end up taking down the Loggers 91 -84.
