MCMINNVILLE, ORE. – The Linfield Wildcats (6-8) looked to bounce back against Whitworth (8-6) on Saturday, January 12
th in Ted Wilson Gymnasium after falling to Whitman on Friday night. Led by the dynamic duo of
Molly Danielson and
Kory Oleson the 'Cats took down the Pirates 85-81.
'Cat stats
Linfield was led by Danielson and Oleson as the each had 22 points; Oleson pulled down nine rebounds while Danielson had eight.
Cassidy Schutz was also in the double digits totaling 15 points and five assists. Off the bench
Hanna Bingham had eight points and
Morgan Croxford had six. Linfield shot and impressive 50% from the field and 40% from the three-point.
Pirates stats
For Whitworth, Camy Aguinaldo had a game high of 26 points and two assists. Madison Moffat added 14 points and five assists for the Pirates. Seven other Whitman players were able to find the net. Whitman also shot 50% from the field and were 41% from the three-point line.
1st Half
The 'Cats won the tip and were able to convert on their opening possession as
Molly Danielson laid it in. Whitworth countered and scored on their next three possessions before
Kory Oleson was able to cut the Pirates momentum as she knocked down a jumper from just inside the three-point line. The 'Cats were able to get within four points as Oleson found Danielson for an easy bucket. Oleson knocked down two free-throws to get the 'Cats within five points to close out the first quarter. The Pirates went on a five-point run to start the second quarter before Danielson knocked down a jumper and then converted on both free-throws after being fouled.
Cassidy Schutz knocked down three-straight threes to tie it up with a little over three minutes left in the first half.
2nd Half
Whitworth came out strong scoring within seconds of the third quarter, but Linfield responded as Reuter found Feinauer for a jumper just inside the three-point line.
Morgan Croxford drained back-to-back jumpers to extend the Wildcats lead to six points. Madison Moffat of Whitworth went three-of-three to close out the third period and cut the Wildcats lead to three. Whitworth tied the game at 73 as Moffat made one of two from the free-throw line.
Hanna Bingham knocked down two-of-two from the charity stripe and gave the 'Cats the lead back making it 79-77, however the Pirates countered with a three to go up by one. Danielson knocked down back-to-back shots to give the Wildcats the lead back. Schutz to Croxford for the go ahead bucket.
