McMINNVILLE, Ore. – Freshman
Dempsey Roggenbuck poured in a game-high 25 points, sparking the Linfield Wildcats to a dominating 95-60 Northwest Conference victory over the flagging George Fox Bruins Saturday night inside Wheeler Sports Center.
"Tonight was a tremendous team effort in all phases of the game," said Wildcats coach
Shanan Rosenberg. "We shared it, we guarded and be hit the glass with conviction. It was great to behold."
Linfield lines
Roggenbuck hit 10 of 16 shots from the field, including a pair of three-pointers, while adding four steals, two rebounds and one assist.
Riley Bruil connected on a trio of three-pointers and finished with 13 points, four assists and four steals.
Austin Hilton totaled eight points, and
Troy Arce contributed 12 points, four assists and three rebounds.
With 12 and 11 rebounds respectively,
Liam O'Reilly and
Tyler Watts helped Linfield control the backboards by a sizable 50-29 differential.
Linfield converted 10 of 22 three-point attempts. George Fox managed six three-pointers on 27 attempts.
For the game, Linfield shot 54 percent from the field while holding George Fox to 31 percent. Linfield hit 20 of 28 attempts from the free throw line.
"Liam and Tyler were special on the glass," praised Rosenberg. "Dempsey played with wonderful agility and confidence all night. We need that from him and he's capable."
Bruins box score
Thomas Rico dropped in a team-high 12 points while Ryan Lacey delivered 11 points and four rebounds off the bench. Dylan Hamlett scored 10 points to go with seven rebounds and three steals.
1st Half
Roggenbuck led all first-half scorers with 14 points, hitting 5 of 8 shots from the field. The Wildcats, who forged a 48-38 halftime lead, shot 54.8 percent from the field in the opening period, compared to the Bruins' 41.2.
George Fox bolted to a 14-2 advantage in the first three minutes, capped by a layup from Lacey. But Linfield embarked on an 11-2 run of its own, trimming the margin to five after
Parker Collins swished a three-pointer with 13:31 left in the period. Hilton worked free down low for a layup with 6:40 to play before intermission, giving the Wildcats their first lead of the game, 31-29. Linfield closed the half with a 12-2 spurt, capped by a three-pointer from Bruil with 39 seconds left.
2nd Half
George Fox never mounted any sort of rally in the second half. Linfield led 76-54 with 7:50 to play and never trailed by fewer than 22 points the rest of the way.
"Dempsey, Sandor (Rodriguez), Troy, Tyler and Riley were very productive versus the press in the last two-thirds of the game," said Rosenberg. "I was particularly proud of our spirit and enthusiasm that was contagious from our bench and all the guys that contribute daily."
Where they stand
Linfield (13-5, 7-3 NWC) strengthened its grip on third place in the NWC standings. George Fox (5-14, 1-9 NWC) suffered its eighth straight defeat and remained in last place.
