McMINNVILLE, Ore. – A second-half tally by Weli Alamillo boosted the Pacific Boxers to a 2-1 come-from-behind Northwest Conference win over the Linfield Wildcats Sunday afternoon at Linfield's Soccer Field.
1st Half
Linfield freshman
Ryan Kister opened the scoring after latching on to a through ball toward Pacific's goal in the 12th minute. Kister took a few dribbles and calmly placed his opportunity past Boxers goalkeeper Leyton Thommasen, giving the Wildcats a 1-0 advantage.
Pacific leveled the scoring 11 minutes later when Jake Castanha followed up a headed attempt during a Pacific corner kick, tapping in a wide-open shot from six yards out.
2nd Half
Malachi Stahlberg opened the second stanza flying for the Wildcats, as he ran on to a pass from
Isaias Flores and guided an effort toward Thommasen's near post. The Boxers netminder got low and was able to parry the shot away, keeping the contest even at 1.
In the 57th minute, Alamillo controlled a loose ball inside of the Wildcats box from his right midfield position and found himself one-on-one against Linfield goalkeeper
Nick Van Kleek. After seeing Van Kleek approach him inside the 18-yard box, Alamillo took a touch to his right and calmly found the side netting of the Linfield goal, upping Pacific's advantage to 2-1.
Linfield reserve
Henry Rosenfeld attempted a left-footed effort toward goal with 20 minutes left to play, only to see his shot blocked by two sliding Pacific defenders.
Linfield Ledger
Kister's first-half goal gave the speedy frosh his second conference tally of the season. Linfield outshot Pacific 12-11. Kister attempted a team-high four strikes. Flores saw two of his shot attempts land on goal. Van Kleek ended the day with two saves.
Chase Whittaker picked up the assist on Kister's goal.
Best Boxers
Thommasen turned away five Linfield attempts on goal. Castanha and Robert Nurmi each figured in three shots.
What It Means
The Wildcats remain in search of their first conference win after tumbling to 0-4. Linfield's overall record drops to 2-6. Pacific improved to 5-3 overall, 2-2 in leagu action.
