NEWBERG, Ore. – A stellar eight-save match by Andrew Phillis denied the Linfield Wildcats their first Northwest Conference win, helping the George Fox Bruins gain a 2-0 victory Friday evening at Austin Sports Complex.
1st Half
The Bruins captured their first score of the contest during the 22nd minute when Alejandro Saldana slotted his shot past Wildcats goalkeeper
Eli Peckham from 11 yards out.
George Fox doubled its advantage just 2:40 later when Moises Manon converted his opportunity through a loose-ball scrum to notch his fourth goal of the season.
2nd Half
The Wildcats continued to apply pressure on the Bruins net, generating the eight of their 16 total shots in the second period.
With time waning down, Linfield's
Chase Whittaker found some space in the box and guided a header toward Phillis' goal, only to see the ball fly wide in the 89th minute.
Leading Wildcats
Josh Morales recorded a quarter of Linfield's shot attempts, finishing the contest with four.
Ryan Kister tallied three shots, two of which came in the first period. Peckham turned away two shots on four George Fox attempts.
Top Bruins
Alonzo Daniel was the only Bruin to record an assist on the night. Manon totaled a team-high three shots. Phillis earned his second win of the season, recording 23 saves in just three matches this year.
What It Means
Linfield (2-5, 0-3 NWC) continues to search for its first conference win of the season. The Bruins (4-5, 2-2 NWC) achieved their second league victory of the season.
