EUGENE, Ore. –
Jordan Clark hit the game-winning three-pointer as time expired, sending the Linfield Wildcats to a 69-66 road victory over the Northwest Christian Beacons Wednesday night at Morse Event Center.
Clark ended the game without a single missed shot. The senior center hit all eight of his field goal attempts and went 3-for-3 at the free throw line.
Led by Clark's career-high 20 points and nine rebounds, the Wildcats mounted a successful comeback from a six-point shortfall with five minutes remaining.
How it played out
Two successive three-pointers by
Liam O'Reilly with under four minutes left, coupled with back-to-back layups by Clark, tied the game at 66 with 42 seconds to go. Wildcats guard
Troy Arce blocked an attempted layup by Kenny Blackwell with six seconds left and
Tyler Watts gathered the rebound. After a timeout, Watts fed Clark the game-winner, lifting Linfield to its seventh win in eight outings.
"What an amazing finish and last seven minutes to give us a chance to win after being down much of the game," Wildcats coach
Shanan Rosenberg said. "Jordan made a huge game-winner, just the way we drew it up."
An unlikely hero who began the night as a career 16 percent three-point shooter, Clark was a man on a mission Wednesday, scoring 16 of his 20 points in the second half and coming one rebound shy of a double-double.
"Jordan was as determined to succeed as I have ever seen him in the second half," said Rosenberg. "It's great to see such a special senior rise to the occasion."
Linfield ledger
Dempsey Roggenbuck came off the bench to contribute 12 points, O'Reilly scored 11, and
Riley Bruil had 10. Arce totaled four assists, three rebounds and added a blocked shot, though the junior transfer struggled from the field, going 0 for 6 from three-point range.
"It was definitely a pre-finals special as our execution was not very good," admitted Rosenberg. "I give Northwest Christian a lot of credit for disrupting us and playing very hard."
NCU by the numbers
Michael Loomis netted game highs with 22 points and 13 rebounds. Blackwell added 16 points, seven assists and three steals in support.
