What's the Best Linfield Class You've Taken and Why? The best class that I have taken at Linfield so far has been Computational Physics. This class goes over the multiple methods on how to solve physical phenomena numerically with the aid of computational code. I really like this class as it goes over techniques on how to model physical phenomena in the real world to a computer and finding ways to solve more complicated problems.
Â
Who Has Been the Greatest Inspiration in Your Life? Why Has He or She Been So Influential? The person who has been the greatest inspiration in my life is Neil deGrasse Tyson, who is an American astrophysicist. He is where my love of physics began - where he would talk about the complex nature of reality and interesting phenomena that happens on other planets. I wanted to learn more about the universe and what governs its physical properties.
Â
The Greatest Principle or Lesson That I've Learned While Competing in Athletics at Linfield has been... The greatest lesson that I have learned from being an athlete at Linfield is to know your limits/goals, and know how to improve with those constraints. If you set a goal is would be unobtainable, then you would feel like you failed at your goal. This mindset helps you improve in the long term as it sets checkmarks along the way to a bigger goal.
Â
As a Linfield-Student Athlete, My Goals Individually and Collectively for My Team Are... As a Linfield student-athlete, my goal individually is to succeed in both my academics and athletics, with the main goal to incorporate my team into my success academically. Collectively, my goal for the team is help them success within the season and help them feel like they can rely on me for the team.
Â
WHY LINFIELD? I chose Linfield because at Linfield, I found the balance between academics and athletics that I wanted. Linfield gave me the opportunity to explore the realm of education while pursuing my love of swimming at the same time. At Linfield I can focus more on reaching goals that are both based in academics and athletics without sacrificing one for the other.
Â
WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE A STUDENT-ATHLETE AT LINFIELD? A student-athlete is both focused on their academics and athletics and have to find a way to fit both of them into a daily schedule. Being a student-athlete means that even though that you are in athletics, doesn't mean that academics come second. Academics are a part of being a student-athlete, and making sure that both are successful makes both a great student and athlete.
Â
WHAT MAKES YOU INTERESTING AS A STUDENT-ATHLETE? As a student-athlete, I push anytime I have the chance, whether or not it's in the classroom or in the pool, I strive to do my best always. This focus on striving to be one's best makes me focus on details that come with being a student-athlete. Down to the tiny details, there is a way to improve in any division. I focus on the tiny detail that causes a major problem and build up from there, improving little by little.
Â
WHAT IS NEXT AFTER LINFIELD? My career focus at the moment is to become an astrophysicist. Linfield helps me with this by bringing me opportunities that I wouldn't have had if I went to a bigger, public university. With smaller class sizes, Linfield focuses on the connection between the student and professor. Building deeper connections makes students learn better and understand concepts more in-depth. By being more in-depth in a wide array of subject, brings more presentable personnel in the occupational world.
Â
WHAT'S THE BEST LINFIELD CLASS YOU'VE TAKEN AND WHY? The best class that I have taken at Linfield is the PHYS 440 and 441, Electricity and Magnetism I and II. This two-semester course was built on the philosophy of self-teaching. Within these courses, I was tasked with completing homework assignments without the aid of lectures and was encouraged to be engaged with the concepts defined within the text. These courses required a lot of self-discipline and passion for the subject, and I took this course as a challenge. Because of these courses not only was I able to learn in a completely new environment, but I was also able to learn more about myself in how I approach new concepts that I must grapple with.
