Two Linfield student-athletes stood out over the weekend, earning a pair of Northwest Conference Athlete of the Week honors. Senior
Kellen Hudson's come from behind win at the Willamette Valley Cup and junior
Tyler McNeley's perfect weekend inside the circle earned the two the conference's weekly honors.
Hudson opened the tournament with a one-under 70, helping the Wildcats enter the final round tied for second as a team. After going even-par through the first nine holes, Hudson caught fire on his second nine, sinking four birdies and an eagle to shoot 30 (-6) to jump into first place. His two birdies in the final three holes sprung the four-shot swing that earned him the tournament's Medalist honor. Linfield men's golf captured their second team title of the Spring season in just their second tournament, with Hudson now one of two 'Cats to win a tournament this Spring.
Standout pitcher
Tyler McNeley appeared in three games over the weekend, leading a pitching staff that allowed just two Bearcat runs over the four-game series. Although, McNeley was perfect. In games one and three, the junior pitcher threw complete game shutouts, and capped off the series sweep with a two-innings save of game four. She allowed zero runs over 14 innings of work, allowing just five hits while sitting down eight batters. Opponents batted just .106 off of the junior pitcher last weekend, leading the Wildcats to a series sweep of Willamette, moving to 10-2 overall and 6-2 in Northwest Conference play.
Men's golf tees it up again in a pair of weeks at the George Fox Invite in Mollala, Oregon, meanwhile softball hosts Caremont-Mudd-Scripps and Saint Benedict for two games each this week at Del Smith Stadium.
