Ensrud continues to roll at 197-pounds, leading men's wrestling at the Boxer Open

| By:
FOREST Grove, Ore. --- Linfield men's wrestling wrapped up the long week of wrestling on Sunday, competing in the Boxer Open hosted by NWC-rival Pacific University, once again led by Ethan Ensrud, capturing his third title of the season at 197-pounds.

At 133-pounds, Dean Smith opened with a hard-fought 6-3 decision in the quarterfinal match. Smith came up short in his next two matches, placing him in the fifth-place bout thereafter. His opponent in the final match forfeited, earning Smith fifth-place in the meet.

Starting the day in the quarterfinals of the 141-pound bracket, where Max Vander Meide found himself in a shootout, coming out on top with a narrow 12-11 decision to advance to the semifinal. He dropped his semifinal match via a late pin in the third period, but bounced back with a 20-4 technical fall in the consolation semifinal. Vander Meide finished fourth after falling 17-2 in the third-place match.

Fermin Carillo (141-pounds). Lucien Lefebvre (165-pounds) and Damon Gasilos (165-pounds) each went 2-2 in their brackets, unable to place for the meet. Trey Dieringer started his day in the quarterfinal as well, dominating with two tech falls, outscoring opponents 32-1 on his way to the first-place match in the 184-pound bracket. Dieringer's run ended with a 19-4 tech fall, where his opponent from Clackamas took the title.

At 197-pounds, Ethan Ensrud continued his great 2025-26 season, having won two prior tournaments and winning his match at the Night at the Museum. His winning streak was extended on Sunday, pinning three opponents, two of which in the first period, to claim a third 197-pound tournament win.

Three 'Cats competed in the heavyweight bracket, with Julian Ortiz and Adrian Clark combining for a win, but were unable to place. Although, Camden Roofener navigated a sudden victory in his first matchup, sparking two pins that helped him advance to the title match. Roofener battled, but was pinned halfway through the second period of the title bout, placing second for the meet.

Three 'Cats placed within the top-three of three separate brackets at Sunday's Boxer Open, wrapping up a week that also featured a dual win just two days prior.

The Wildcats host senior night this Friday inside Ted Wilson Gymnasium, taking on the Southwestern Oregon CC Lakers at 7 p.m., set to honor the first-ever Linfield Wrestling senior class.
