Linfield swimming splits regular season finale at George Fox

| By:
NEWBERG, Ore. --- Linfield men's and women's swim teams completed the regular seaon schedule on Saturday morning, splitting the pair of duals at rival George Fox. The men's squad cruised to a 124-71 win, but the women's team fell late in a close battle, 107-98.

Samuel Postlewait, Ivan Tontchev, Rocco Velie and Carson Washburn took the opening 200 yard medley relay by four-seconds, posting a 1:37.71 to grab an early lead. The women's 200 medley relay was close throughout, but Kirsti Keppo, Kira Etheredge, Sarah Arpag and Caley Haydu finished less-than one second behind the Bruins, taking second.

Kai Laitinen and Chloe Lazaraton repeated their long distance wins from last night, this time securing wins in both 1650 yard freestyles. Freshman Logan Mendez followed it up with a win of his own in the 200 yard freestyle, an event senior Kirsti Keppo is familiar with winning as well. She claimed a five-second winning margin to help Linfield sweep the event.

George Fox got the better of the two 50 yard freestyle sprints, but Laitinen and Etheredge each won the 400 yard IM races. Laitinen's win was close, as he held off his own teammate, Rocco Velie, by under a second.

Senior Sarah Arpag continued to dominate in the women's 100 yard butterfly, leading to two wins by Jack Sappington and Haydu in the 100 yard freestyle. Mendez found his second win of the morning in the 100 yard backstroke, just beating out a pair of Bruins by one second. Postlewait and Keppo won their second races as well, both winning the 500 yard freestyles easily.

Tontchev returned to the winner's circle in the final men's individual race of the day, winning the 100 yard breaststroke. Etheredge's strong day culminated in the women's 100 yard breaststroke, edging out a narrow win.

Postlewait, Sappington, Nik Jelusic and Andrew Lee sealed the win for the men's team in the final 200 yard freestyle relay, clipping the Bruins by 0.13-seconds to win. George Fox took first and third in the women's race, helping them defend their home pool to a 107-98 win.

Although the Linfield women's swim team won seven of 11 events, the Bruins depth provided the points needed to defeat the 'Cats. The Wildcat men's squad turned in nine wins on Saturday, leading to the dominant win.

The Wildcats will spend a few weeks of recovery and training for the 2026 Northwest Conference Championships, held at the Idaho Central Aquatic Center in Boise, Idaho, beginning on February 13.
