After anchoring the top of Linfield's lineup all season, sophomore
Brooks Lerfald has been named to the All-Northwest Conference First Team, in a release on Friday afternoon.
Â
Lerfald, a finance major from Eugene, Oregon, was a mainstay at the No. 1 singles and doubles positions for the Wildcats, where he delivered impressive performances time and again. His first team nod marks the first all-conference recognition of his collegiate career.
Â
Lerfald closed the season strong in singles play, winning three of his last four conference matches. He defeated Willamette twice, including a dominant 6-2, 6-1 road win in early March and a 7-5, 6-1 decision at home to cap the regular season. He also notched a convincing 6-4, 6-1 victory over Pacific, flipping the script after a three-set loss to the same opponent earlier in the year.
Â
Outside of conference play, Lerfald grabbed a straight-set road win over Whittier, 6-3, 6-4, during Linfield's spring break trip to Southern California.
Â
In doubles, Lerfald partnered with
Rogue Stone at the top spot, forming one of the most competitive tandems in the conference. The pair went on a four-match win streak late in the season, highlighted by victories over Whitworth (6-3), Whitman (6-2), and Lewis & Clark (6-4). They also pulled off a thrilling 9-8 (12-10) win against Irvine Valley and a 7-6 (10-8) triumph at Pacific.
Â
While the Wildcats faced a challenging schedule, Lerfald's leadership and high-level play helped keep Linfield competitive throughout the season. His all-conference recognition proves reason to be excited about his future as a Wildcat.
