Box Score 2 TUCSON, Ariz. – Linfield wrapped up play in the Tucson Invitational Games Saturday afternoon at the Kino Sports Complex with a 14-0 blowout of Carthage and a 19-8 triumph over Caltech.
Hunter Klingelhoffer came up big for the Wildcats' offense, driving home two home runs on the day.
GAME 1: Linfield 14, Carthage 0
The Wildcats put together a commanding performance in a 14-0 shutout against Carthage. Linfield's explosive offense and dominant pitching led to the team's first of two victories on the day.
The Wildcats racked up 14 runs on 14 hits, with multiple players contributing to the offensive surge. Leading the way was
Hunter Klingelhoffer, who went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored.
Also contributing significantly were
Josh Mansur and
Marco Santulli. Mansur, who finished 3-for-5 with three runs and two RBI, was a catalyst for Linfield's offense, while Santulli, with 2 RBI showing, played a key role in adding to the team's run total. Additionally,
Tyler Marr went 4-for-5 at the plate and totaled three runs to go along with a RBI.
On the mound, junior pitcher
Jake Swenson dominated for Linfield, throwing seven scoreless innings. He allowed just three hits, walked two, and struck out nine batters, earning the win. Following him,
Cooper Justice and
Nick Alder combined for the final two innings, each maintaining the shutout and adding to the team's solid pitching performance.
Carthage, on the other hand, was unable to find any rhythm offensively. The team mustered just three hits and struggled to make contact with Swenson's pitching. Despite a few errors, Linfield's solid play on both sides of the ball was too much for Carthage to handle.
GAME 2: Linfield 18, Caltech 8
Linfield's offense exploded for 18 runs on 19 hits, leading to an 18-8 victory over Caltech in the second game of their split doubleheader at Kino Sports Complex on Saturday afternoon.
Klingelhoffer played a pivotal role in the Wildcats' offensive onslaught, going 4-for-4 with two home runs, five runs scored, and six RBI. The senior outfielder's performance helped fuel an eight-run first inning that set the tone for the rest of the game.
Linfield's
Luke Porter also impressed at the plate yet again, going 4-for-4 in his at-bats with three runs scored and two RBI.
Caiden Gould drove in four runners in the game while reaching home plate twice himself while
Wyatt McClory tallied two runs and two RBI.
On the mound,
Zach Johnson earned the win for Linfield, working four innings and allowing three runs on four hits. He struck out three batters and walked two, while his teammates in relief, including
Garrett Hames,
Jackson Koons and
Brian Mannion kept Caltech's offense in check the rest of the way.
The Beavers managed to mount a brief rally in the fifth inning, scoring four runs, including a grand slam from Thorsen Kristufek that brought the score to 14-7. However, it was not enough to overcome Linfield's massive early lead. The Beavers were led by Kristufek, who finished the game 2-for-3 with five RBI, including his grand slam. Kenji Farrell took the loss after allowing seven runs in just 0.2 innings.
