Burnaby, B.C. --- Linfield women's wrestling began the 2025-26 season on Sunday morning north of the border, taking on Division II Simon Fraser University in the Simon Fraser Duals. The Red Leafs got the best of the Wildcats, winning the dual, 42-5.

Jessica Cottings won the Wildcats points via forfeit in the 103-pound bout, then returning to compete in the 110, falling by tech fall to two different opponents. The freshman earned the 'Cats first points of the season.

Cadence Fineran saw her first collegiate wrestling matches, competing at 131-pounds. Fineran fell by Tech Fall in both of her two matches against Simon Fraser. Freshman Casssidy Jones-Mowen and
Jazmyn Seely competed at 138-pounds, with Jones-Mowen falling in her first match via a 10-0 Tech Fall, and then dropping the second match by an 8-0 decision. Seely's match ended via a technical fall 30-seconds into her match. The junior also competed in the 145-pound class, but was pinned early in the match.Ā

At 160-pounds, freshman Nohi Kokonu was pinned by her two opponents. Sophomore
Karina Yoder's match was decided by an 11-0 technical fall. That sealed the deal for Simon Fraser, as the hosts went on to win the dual, 42-5.

The Linfield women's wrestling team is back in action next Saturday in Forest Grove, Oregon, set to compete at the Mike Clock Open hosted by Northwest Conference rival, Pacific University.Ā
