Last Saturday, Junior cornerback
Reid Gray showcased his speed on special teams, returning a Bruins kickoff early in the fourth quarter 94-yards to the house, giving Linfield a two-score lead late in the game. Gray's return notched him the Northwest Conference's Football Special Teams Athlete of the Week honors, as announced by the conference office on Monday.
In the Wildcats 35-17 victory over rival George Fox, Gray led the team in return yardage for both kickoffs and punts. The junior's day was highlighted by the kickoff return, although he also recorded four tackles and two pass breakups on the defensive side of the ball. The return ties Gary McGarvie for the eighth-longest kickoff return in Linfield football history, and the program's longest since 2006. This season, Gray leads the team in average kickoff return yardage with 39.33 yards on three attempts.
Gray and the Wildcats aim to keep their momentum rolling into Homecoming weekend, as the 'Cats host the Pacific Boxers on Maxwell Field at 1 p.m.
