McMINNVILLE, Ore. – Linfield junior Klaira Flatt advanced through a crowded field of 173 combatants to place fifth overall, and fellow junior Abisua Perez Diaz scored her first collegiate victory, highlighting the list of results for the Linfield women at the fourth annual Mat 'Cat Open held Sunday inside Rutschman Field House.
 
As a team, Linfield's women finished eighth among the 12 competing teams.
 
Flatt went 2-2 on the day in the 145-pound weight class, pinning Grace Cooper of Evergreen State in 1:42 in the fifth-place match. She opened the tournament with a pin of Southern Oregon's Kiana Patrick in 1:25.

"Klaira was fifth today but had a really good day," said Linfield coach Frank Johnson afterward. "She's becoming more comfortable and that's due to the work she's putting in."
 
Competing at 160 pounds, Perez-Diaz battled Pacific's Skyelynn Ripley for over five minutes before securing a pinfall, the first victory and pin of her young collegiate career.
 
"Abisua has been so dialed in. After conceding a takedown, she got her wits about her and came to life. Things weren't going her way but she dug deep to get the pin."

Linfield is in Forest Grove for a pair of competitions next weekend. The Wildcats are scheduled to compete in the Boxer Duals at Pacific University's Stoller Center Saturday at 2 p.m. before returning to the same site to participate in the Boxer Open starting at 9 a.m.
