Ensrud makes finals, leads five Linfield placewinners at Boxer Open

FOREST GROVE, Ore. – For the second consecutive week, Linfield sophomore Ethan Ensrud claimed a runner-up finish at an open tournament. At the Boxer Open on Sunday, Ensrud knocked off Olajuwon Sobomehein of Clackamas Community College and Aidan Walters of Corban, before falling 9-5 to Menlo's Mathias Collins in the championship match.

A week ago, Ensrud finished second at the Mat 'Cat Open. He has a 20-10 record on the season.

"Ethan is wrestling well, and learning how to navigate close matches," Linfield coach Frank Johnson said. "He knows what he has to work on, so he can turn those second-place finishes into first-place finishes in the future."

Heavyweight Julian Ortiz finished third at the Boxer Open, 141/149-pounder Carlos Kisokwa placed fourth and Lucian Lefebvre finished sixth at 165 pounds. Freshman Fermin Carrillo Rueda also claimed his first collegiate win. On the women's side, freshman Jaydn Islas claimed a sixth-place finish at the tournament.

On Saturday, Linfield's men dualed Simpson University and Treasure Valley Community College at the Boxer Duals. The Wildcats fell to Simpson 45-12, but claimed their first dual win of the season, a 20-15 win over Treasure Valley.

The Linfield women were missing too many starters to hold dual meets, but wrestled exhibition matches against Simpson and Treasure Valley. Junior Abisua Perez Diaz, who claimed her first collegiate win last weekend at the Mat 'Cat Open, won both of her exhibition matches in Forest Grove.

"(Abisua) is starting to put things together," Johnson said. "It's fun to see it click for her. She's only going to get better from here."
