SPOKANE, Wash. – Linfield sophomore
Alice Rickett won two matches Saturday at the U.S. Marine Corps Women's National Championships at The Podium event center.
Rickett, who went 14-4 and won a regional championship this year for the Wildcats, was back on the mat for the first time since Feb. 25. She wrestled at the 65kg bracket for women 20 years old or younger.
Any rust from the long layoff didn't show, however.
She opened with an 18-12 high-flying win over Kailey Rees from the University of Providence (Mont.), before dropping her first match since November – falling to California state high school champion Faith Bartoszek.
Rickett rallied for another win in the consolation bracket, surging to an 11-2 lead over Southern Oregon's Isabella Prinslow before sealing the match with a pin at the 4:31 mark. Her run at nationals ended half an hour later, however, with an 8-2 loss to Pennsylvania state finalist Charlotte Gilfoil.
"It's great that Alice is gaining experience at national-level competitions," Linfield coach
Alyssa Lampe said. "This will only make her better. We're looking forward to working with her again next season, too. She has a bright future, and she's getting better all the time."
