McMINNVILLE, Ore. – Friday night's scheduled men's and women's duals against Grays Harbor College didn't go as planned, after a last-minute travel problem kept many of the Choker wrestlers from making the trip. But that didn't keep wrestling fans from celebrating Linfield's graduating wrestlers on Senior Night at Ted Wilson Gymnasium.Â
Â
Filled out with opponents from Pacific University, Linfield ended up wrestling five women's matches and four men's exhibitions in front of an appreciative home crowd. Seniors
Riley Omonaka and
Jakob Jarvis went out in style, winning their final matches in the home gym. Â
Â
"It wasn't how we'd planned on the evening going, but we adapted and everyone had a good night," said Linfield coach
Frank Johnson. "The wrestling community came together, as it always does, and we put on a good show for our fans and gave our wrestlers some competition."Â
Â
Omonaka, only three days after winning her first collegiate match with an 11-0 tech fall at Pacific, repeated the feat on Friday with an 11-0 tech fall over Grays Harbor's Aliya Hammons.Â
Â
"It's really coming together for Riley at the right time," said Linfield assistant coach
Alyssa Lampe. "She's been putting in the work, and it shows as we head toward the postseason."Â
Â
Jarvis, one of the first wrestlers to join Linfield's club team which eventually became an NCAA team last year, finished his final match at Ted Wilson Gymnasium with a 17-2 tech fall over Pacific's Tyler Clooten. Jarvis improved his record to 14-12 on the year.Â
Â
Friday also marked Cancer Awareness Night, and author and motivational speaker Richard Jensen addressed the crowd before the matches began.Â

Even though it was the team's final match at the home gym, it won't be the final home match. Thanks to a rescheduled dual as a result of last month's snow and ice storm, Linfield's men and women will host Umpqua Community College at Evergreen Space Museum on Wednesday, Feb. 14. The Linfield mat will be placed next to stealth jets at Evergreen for "Night at the Museum" duals, and fans will be treated to a unique wrestling venue starting at 7 p.m.
