NWC Trio SAOTW

‘Cat trio named NWC Student-Athletes of the Week

Three Wildcats were selected to Northwest Conference weekly award honors following strong performances from Linfield baseball and lacrosse. Junior Mackenzie Kulick was awarded NWC Lacrosse Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week while junior Camden Oram and senior Elijah Maris swept the NWC Baseball Pitcher and Position Student-Athlete of the Week awards.

Kulick led the Linfield defense with two caused turnovers in the Wildcats' 24-1 season-opening win against Eastern Oregon on Feb. 23. She added three goals on three shots and won eight draw controls. Linfield's 24 goals is the third-highest scoring total in program history. The Woodlands, Texas, native ranks second in the NWC in caused turnovers (2) and draw controls (8).

Oram pitched a complete game shutout on Feb. 23 in a 6-0 win over Division II Central Washington. He gave up only four hits, one walk and struck out four batters. The Tumwater, Wash., native earned his first win in a Linfield uniform and his 3.38 ERA ranks among the NWC leaders.

Maris totaled two hits, two runs, a double and an RBI against Central Washington on Feb. 23. On Feb. 24 against Saint Martins, Maris tallied five hits, four runs, three RBIs and two home runs, including a walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth-inning to give Linfield the 3-2 victory in game one of the Sunday doubleheaders. The Atlanta, Ga., native ranks among the NWC leaders in batting average (.406) and total home runs (2).

Linfield baseball returns to Roy Helser Field on Saturday when Pacific comes to town for a doubleheader starting at noon. Linfield lacrosse is back in action on March 8 when Whitman comes to McMinnville for the NWC opener at 6 p.m.
