Wildcats swamp Bruins in NWC dual meet debut

McMINNVILLE, Ore. – Winning all four relays and 16 of 18 individual events, Linfield swept both sides of a Northwest Conference dual meet from neighboring George Fox Saturday at the Linfield Aquatics Center.
 
Kirsti Keppo won three individual events for the women. Jack Gallo and Sam Postlewait each won two individual men's events, while Rocco Velie won an individual event and swam on two winning relays.
 
The Linfield men prevailed over their George Fox counterparts by a 125-79 count. The Wildcat women topped the Bruin ladies 123-76.
 
MEN
Gallo in the 200 butterfly (1:58.23) and the 500 freestyle (5:08.48) while Velie was the top finisher in the 200 individual medley (1:59.12). In the 200 freestyle, Postlewait edged Gallo at the wall by .10, 1:51.10 to 1:51.20. Postlewait also claimed the 100 freestyle (49.03).
 
Other top finishers for the Linfield men included Ivan Tontchev in the 50 freestyle (23.16) and Kai Laitenen in the 1,000 freestyle (10:23.53).
 
In the 400 medley relay, the foursome of Gavin Smith, Tontchev, Velie and Carson Washburn swam to an eight-second victory (3:38.75). Velie, Postlewait, Washburn and Smith teamed up to win the 400 freestyle (3:18.88).
 
WOMEN
Keppo showed off the range of her skill in the freestyle events, winning the 200 freestyle (2:02.50), the 500 freestyle (5:23.03) and the 1,000 freestyle (11:16.02).
 
Lauren Bobo-Shisler was victorious in the 50 freestyle (25.69), Kalea Mullins won the 200 individual medley (2:18.87), and Sarah Arpag was the top finisher in the 200 butterfly (2:15.56).
 
Other event winners for the Wildcats included Caley Haydu in the 100 freestyle (56.59) and Avery Campbell in the 200 backstroke (2:27.58).
 
Campbell, Mullins, Arpag and Bobo-Shisler combined to win the 400 medley relay (4:17.10). Arpag, Haydu, Mullins and Bobo-Shisler swam to a first-place result in the 400 freestyle (3:47.08).
 
AHEAD
The Wildcats hit the road to eastern Washington for a pair of NWC dual meets in the coming weekend. Friday night, the Wildcats are in Walla Walla, where they'll battle Whitman at 6 p.m. Linfield then ventures to Spokane on Saturday to challenge Whitworth in a 1 p.m. matchup.
